Healthy New Year 2008!

I love cream cakes as much as the next person, but I don't touch them. Here is our guidelines on "keeping on"eating well & feeling good. We are not health professionals & most of this stuff is common sense.

1. Eat only brown, white turns to sugar (whole grain bread, brown basmati, lentils, quinoa, brown rice pasta or whole wheat pasta, whole grain chapatis)

2. Use only natural sweetner, and limit your processed sweets aka. Cheesecake, brownies (maple syrup as a sweetner has more minerals than honey I hear)

3. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day (if you are a sodium fiend you need more, try to make it sea salt)

4. Limit red meat

5. Eat a few tofu meals a week (soy, nuts, beans or lentils are high in protein and give your digestive system a break.)

6. If you do snack between meals, eat fruit and nuts or whole grain crackers

7. If you don’t take calcium, eat a big handful of almonds daily

8. Use only extra virgin Olive oil for cooking

9. If veggie & eating beans eat mainly black or kidney beans, the rest turn to sugar

10. Where you use potatoes, add a yam or two for vitamins (mashed potatoes with half yams or mashed carrots, greek lemon potatoes & yams, yam fries)

11. Substitute dairy with soy products where possible (soy, almond or rice milk instead of cow’s milk is easier digested, lowfat cheese when you can)

12. Acidopholis is very important for balanced stomach flora and over all health (eat plain yogurt and sweeten it yourself with fruit and maple syrup, or take capsules every other day)

13. Chlorella is a great detoxer – mix it in your smoothies, it actually kicks toxins out of your body, including polluted air we may breathe. Huge source of B vitamins & protein.

14. Bee Pollen is power food. It tastes great, put it in your cereal or blend it into a smoothie

15. Burdock root, in powder or liquid form dispells liver toxins. Your liver cleans all of the blood in your body…..very important.

16. Vitamin C, at least 1000mg a day keeps the immune system happy

17. Multi-Vitamin, take one, even every other day, as food is overprocessed these days and you need nutrients.

18. Eat live fruits and veggies.....you are alive, so are they!
